Our Mission

At Wild Sprouts, our mission is to create an inclusive, nature-based learning community where children can explore, grow, and build confidence. We believe outdoor learning sparks creativity, resilience, and a sense of belonging, empowering kids to form meaningful connections with nature and each other. Through hands-on experiences and play, we nurture curiosity, critical thinking, and a lifelong love for the environment. Our goal is to make outdoor education accessible to all families, ensuring every child has the opportunity to learn, discover, and develop a deep appreciation for the world around them.

Our Vision

We envision a community where every child has the opportunity to learn, play, and explore the world around them through outdoor education—nurturing a sense of wonder and respect for the natural environment.

History of Wild Sprouts

Wild Sprouts is a nature-based organization dedicated to providing immersive outdoor learning experiences for children from birth to 15 years old. Our programs incorporate lessons in math, literacy, science, and art through hands-on exploration in nature. Set against the scenic backdrop of Hope Valley Farm in Knoxville, MD, we welcome families from Frederick County, Washington County, and even neighboring areas in Virginia to join us in cultivating a love for learning and the environment.

Wild Sprouts was founded as an LLC in the spring of 2023, building on the foundation laid by our Director, Megan, who began leading Tinkergarten classes in the spring of 2022. Since then, we have expanded our offerings to meet the growing needs of our community, launching our first school-year program for preschoolers and homeschoolers in the fall of 2023. Our summer camp program debuted in 2024 for children ages 3.5-8, and in 2025, we are excited to introduce a Counselor in Training (CIT) program, extending opportunities to children up to age 15.

As part of our commitment to making outdoor education accessible to more children, Wild Sprouts is in the process of becoming a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. This will allow us to serve even more families, provide scholarships, and deepen our impact on the community by expanding our programs and partnerships.

A Message from Our Founder & Executive Director

When I first started leading outdoor classes in 2022, I saw something incredible happen - kids became more confident, curious, and engaged simply by being outside. They weren’t just learning; they were discovering, problem-solving, and forming deep connections with nature and each other. I knew then that I wanted to create something bigger - a place where children could explore, grow, and learn in a way that felt natural, meaningful, and joyful.

That vision became Wild Sprouts.

Wild Sprouts was built on the belief that every child deserves the chance to learn through nature, no matter their background or circumstances. Traditional classrooms don’t work for every learner, and I wanted to create a space where kids could move, create, and ask questions in an environment that sparks wonder and resilience.

What started as a small idea has grown into a thriving community. Families from all over have joined us, and every day, I see children light up as they discover the world around them. With our transition to nonprofit status, my hope is to make Wild Sprouts even more accessible, ensuring that outdoor education isn’t a privilege, but an opportunity available to all.

Thank you for being part of this journey. Whether you’re a parent, volunteer, donor, or supporter, you are helping shape a future where children can learn, play, and grow in the best classroom there is - nature.
